PhD studentship funded under EPSRC Industrial CASE scheme is available within the School of Engineering at Warwick. The project will be based in the brand new Reaction Engineering laboratory in the group of
Professor Alexei Lapkin and is a close collaboration with MEL Chemicals. The project addresses key challenges of clean and economic production of high-performance functional materials used in advanced applications, such as industrial catalysis or carbon dioxide sequestration. The novel approach that will be developed in the project should produce significant environmental benefits in comparison to conventional technologies. Most significantly, the project should also lead to fundamental advance in the synthesis of materials, leading to structures not attainable in other ways. This is an experimental project, combining synthesis using micro- and mm-scale flow reactors with in-depth materials characterization. Industrial training at MEL Chemicals site is an integral part of the project. Student on this project will become an associate of UK's Chemistry Innovation Knowledge Transfer Network, which offers significant networking and career development opportunities.
Successful applicants would have a minimum of 2.1 MChem or MEng degree in Chemistry, Material Science or Chemical Engineering and have strong interest in Clean Processes, Sustainable Chemistry, Inorganic Chemistry. Eligible candidates would have residency in the UK (see eligibility rules on EPSRC web page:
